Origin/Style: Traditional Chinese Provincial / Qing Dynasty Style
Material: Solid hardwood solid lacquered finish with solid brass faceplate, lock pin authentic antique Chinese Wedding Cabinet (Marriage Armoire).
Traditionally crafted in northern China (such as the Shanxi/Shandong provinces) during the late Qing Dynasty to early 20th century, these cabinets were commissioned by a bride's family as part of her dowry to store textiles and valuables, with the bright red colour symbolizing joy, good fortune, and a prosperous marriage. This piece is finished in a vibrant, rich vermillion red lacquer that has developed a beautiful, authentic aged character over the decades. The front features classic clean lines with double cabinet doors that open to reveal spacious internal storage. It is anchored by a large, traditional circular brass "moon gate" lock plate at the center, accompanied by matching drop pull handles. A low-slung lower apron and clean panelled sides round out its elegant, stately silhouette.
The hand-applied red lacquer possesses a gorgeous, rich patina with minor, authentic surface distressing and character marks that reflect its history and age without compromising the beauty of the piece.
